Dress Code

Standard School Attire

Standard school attire (SSA) helps improve how students look and behave, creating a safer and more successful learning environment.

What is Standard School Attire?

  • Pants, shorts, skirts, skorts, or jumpers in the colors of navy blue, black, or any shade of khaki. Leggings should only be worn under skirts, dresses or shorts.
  • Shirts with short or long sleeves and a collar (polo, dress-style with button, or turtleneck) in any solid color. Graphic t-shirts of any kind are not permitted.
  • Waverly Belmont spirit wear is acceptable SSA any day.
  • Students should wear appropriate school shoes. For safety, avoid flip flops.

Students will dress and groom in a clean and neat manner so as not to distract or interfere with the operation of the school day.

General Requirements

  1. Students will wear clothing of appropriate size. Pants, shorts, skorts, or skirts must fit at the waist. Shorts, jumpers, dresses, skirts, or skorts must extend below the fingertip.
  2. The district will not require specific brands of clothing. No writing is allowed on clothing except logos or manufacturer trademarks - which may be no larger than two inches.

Additional Clothing

A jacket, vest, sweater, cardigan, or sweatshirt in any solid color is permitted as a garment that may be worn over the SSA top.

When a student is dressed in a manner which is likely to cause disruption or interference with the operation of the school day or in a manner that violates the developed guidelines, the principal will take appropriate action which may include suspension. Dress code enforcement will be based solely on the guidelines and will not be based upon biases, gender norms, or gender assumptions.
